5 Helpful Resources for Starting Milky Way Photography

When I first pointed my camera at the night sky, I felt excited and well, utterly lost.

But the combination of awe and wonder looking at the stars, challenge of getting it right, and just peace being out at night had me coming back again and again.

Here are my top 5 resources if you’re just getting started:

  1. How to Find and Photograph the Milky Way using Stellarium

Knowing where the Milky Way is in the nigth sky for where you live is KEY, https://stellarium.org/ is the free program, I recommend downloading the computer version as opposed to using it on web.

2. Your Best Camera For Milky Way Photography

(P.S. I recorded this video 4 years ago, all the info is still exactly what I would say now… except I have so much less gray hair than I do now! It’s significant, lol!)

3. How Night Photography is Different

This is a podcast episode on my After Dark Photography Podcast that dives into how this genre is different from other types of photography

4. Night Photography Gear Basics

This is beyond our camera and looking at what else we might need over on my After Dark Photography Podcast

5. Back to Basics: Our Camera (Part 1 of 4)

This is the first in a 4 part series all about shooting with your camera, specifically with the intent to go out and shoot at night!
